GEO Agency and GEO Consulting: Become the Brand AI Recommends
When ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews compose an answer, your name, your service and your contact details should be inside it.
A business owner searching for a "GEO agency" or "GEO consulting" has usually noticed the same thing: customers no longer decide by scanning ten blue links. They ask an assistant, note the two or three names in the paragraph that comes back, and stop searching there. If your name is not in that paragraph, your position in the results list has little practical effect.
GEO — Generative Engine Optimization — is the work of turning a brand into a source for those answers. It is not a separate channel: it means making your existing site, your corporate records and the mentions of you elsewhere readable, verifiable and quotable by a language model.
This page sets out what we do, in what order, and what we look at to measure it. You will not find ranking promises or unsourced percentages: AI answers come out of closed-box systems and nobody can commit to an outcome inside them. What we can commit to is building every technical and editorial condition your brand needs to appear in those answers, and reporting it with evidence.
What does a GEO agency actually do?
When a language model composes an answer it draws on three things: what it already holds about you, the live sources it can reach at that moment, and whether those sources agree with each other. GEO work aims to make all three layers work in your favour. Most of the effort is not writing new content from scratch; it is making information you already have machine-readable and internally consistent.
The six items below are the concrete job description of a GEO agency. The order is not arbitrary: you cannot start without measuring, content written before the infrastructure is fixed usually goes unread, and without measurement in place you never learn which item worked.
AI visibility audit
We write out the questions customers in your sector actually ask and put each one to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Who is named for which question, which page is cited, whether your name appears at all — every result is recorded with its date. That first record is the only baseline that can later answer the question "did this improve?".
Entity and brand information layer
Your brand name, legal entity, address, service area and team are often written differently on the site, in Google Business Profile and in third-party records. To a language model that inconsistency becomes a question: same business, or two different ones? We align those records on a single correct version so who you are can be read from one place.
Structured data implementation
We implement schema.org types such as Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, Person and BreadcrumbList, staying strictly within what the page actually contains. No service that is invisible on the page is written into the markup; that breaks structured data policy and creates a contradiction on the machine-readable side.
Question-led content architecture
The unit that gets quoted is the paragraph, not the page. So we turn subheadings into the customer's own sentence, finish the answer inside the first paragraph, and move decision-shaping detail such as comparisons and scope into tables. The test is simple: can an assistant lift a sentence from your page that still means something on its own?
AI crawler access and technical layer
GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and OAI-SearchBot must be explicitly allowed in robots.txt, llms.txt must be published, pages must render fully without JavaScript, and the security layer must not turn the bot away. We test these items with real bot user-agents and report them together with the response code.
Measurement and monthly reporting
We re-ask the same question set at regular intervals and record how the mentions change. AI-referred sessions from analytics and Search Console data are added to that. The report is not a list of things done: it states what changed for which question, which item did not work, and what we will look at next month.
GEO / SEOWhat is the difference between GEO and SEO?
They are not rivals; they use the same content and technical foundation for different outputs. SEO aims to move a page up the results list, GEO aims to have that page cited as a source inside a generated answer. Because the foundation is largely shared, GEO work built on top of solid SEO infrastructure moves noticeably faster.
The difference shows up most clearly in the unit of measurement and in the shape of the content. The table below puts the two channels side by side.
| Topic | SEO | GEO |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Rank higher in the results list | Be cited as a source in the generated answer |
| Unit of measurement | Ranking, impressions, clicks | Mention count, citation, AI-referred session |
| Unit of content | The page | The paragraph and the definition sentence |
| Technical weight | Crawlability, page speed, internal linking | Structured data, entity consistency, bot access |
| Off-brand signal | Backlinks | Mentions and third-party corroboration |
How does the engagement run?
The order is fixed, because each step builds on the output of the one before it. The durations below are typical ranges; the current state of the site, the volume of content and your own decision cycles can move them in either direction.
- Phase 1 — first 2 weeks
Discovery and baseline measurement
We build the question set, run it engine by engine, and crawl the site technically and structurally. The output of this phase is not a proposal but a diagnosis: who appears for which question, which item is missing on your side, and which of them closes quickly.
- Phase 2 — weeks 2 to 6
Infrastructure and structured data
Bot access, schema implementation, entity consistency and server-side rendering of the pages are closed out in this phase. It is the least visible and the most decisive part; content written while this layer is missing is often never read at all.
- Phase 3 — from week 4, ongoing
Content and entity work
Pages are written for the questions that have no answer yet, existing pages are converted to a question-led structure, and team and service profiles are published. In the same period the brand's external mentions and reference pages are reviewed.
- Phase 4 — monthly
Measurement, reporting and course correction
The original question set is re-measured with the same method, the change is reported, and next month's priority is set from it. If an item is not working it is dropped; writing that down plainly is worth more than keeping the list long.
Who is this service for?
GEO is not the same priority for every business. Its effect is highest where the customer asks questions before deciding, where the service is chosen after research, and where the wrong choice is expensive. If at least two of the descriptions below fit you, this page was written for you.
- Your customer researches for days before choosing you; the decision is not made in a single click.
- You are visible on Google, but when the same question goes to an assistant other names come back.
- The information exists on your site, yet credentials, process, scope and pricing logic are scattered or buried in an image.
- Firms you compete with in the same district or the same specialism are named regularly in AI answers.
- You run several branches, several specialisms or several languages and the records do not agree with each other.
- You cannot tell whether the SEO work you are paying for has any effect on the AI side.
What do we measure?
There is no such thing as a "ranking" inside an AI answer, so measurement cannot be built like rank tracking. We repeat a fixed question set with a fixed method and record the change. Some of these metrics are volatile by nature, and the report does not hide that volatility.
- How often the brand is mentioned across the defined question set, and on which engines.
- Which page URLs are cited inside the answer, and which section of the page the quote came from.
- Sessions arriving from AI interfaces in analytics, and how those sessions behave on the site.
- The change in impressions and clicks for question-shaped queries in Search Console.
- Clean validation of the structured data, and which schema type is live on which page.
- The result of access tests run with bot user-agents: which bot receives which response code.
We apply this method to our own site as well; the result of the six measurement clusters, including our own record of being mentioned by name in 12 of 179 answers — in 8 of those the question already contained our brand name — and cited without our name in 6, is published on the GEO Visibility Index page.
GEO AgencyWhat should you look for when choosing a GEO agency?
Because the field is new, two kinds of provider sit side by side in the market and from the outside both use the same sentences. The practical way to tell them apart is to look at the evidence an agency can show rather than the polish of the pitch. Put the six questions below to us as well.
- Can you show how you took the baseline measurement? Is there a dated, question-specific, repeatable record?
- Which items do you carry out yourselves, and for which do you need access or approval from us?
- When the contract ends, what stays with me? Who owns the schema, the content, the measurement file and the accounts?
- How will we know an item is not working, and at what point do you drop it?
- Do you guarantee anything? If so, a guarantee of what: the outcome, or the work performed?
- Do you know the regulatory limits in our sector; what may we not claim in health, legal or financial content?
